Psychologists define personality as the combination of characteristics or qualities that form an individual’s distinctive character. As you can imagine, a definition that broad has led to a wide range of personality theories that can be difficult for non-psychologists to apply to their daily lives. This session will focus on one personality measure, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), that is helpful in understanding how individuals behave in social settings. Understanding the MBTI characteristics can help you identify and harness the strengths in the personality profiles of others. In this interactive session, participants will learn about the MBTI through engaging small group discussions.
If possible, participants should complete the brief on-line personality inventory prior to the session at (http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp) and write down their 4 letter personality type. Completing the personality measure is not necessary for the session but will help you better understand yourself.
